Went to spray the bottom leaves of my chocolate hab to get rain splashed soil off and noticed these in a clump on the underside. Sprayed the hell out of them and the plant with a mix of dawn and water. Assumed dawn was a ā€œgentle soapā€ and not a detergent. Fingers crossed my spraying won’t harm the plant too much. 😩

Best of luck! The battle begins…

    I love my black elderberry.
It’s the first to get aphids and the first one where I can reliably borrow plenty of ladybug larvae.
Three larvae clean up a plant in 2-3 days.

In German culture, elderberry is often associated with protecting the home and farm and the wish for a bountiful harvest.

Ladybug larva are the only thing I know of that will just consume aphids until there are no more aphids.Ā  Neem oil, dish soap, vinegar and water only slow them down.

Hello to you, my special friends…

I have a present for you.

Skip on the Dawn and invest in Castile Soap. Dr. Bronners is widely available and gets the job done and you can stretch that a whole lot further than Safer Soap.

Aphids suck but there’s one pest I dread and that battle is just beginning….the hornworms are coming…

I found one plant covered in aphids today. Sprayed them off with the hose and plan to check again tonight.

My mix of PM. Dawn dish soap, 90% rubbing alcohol, distilled white vinegar, and cayenne pepper powder. Works miracles just stay on a 3 day regimen.

So far I never won a fight vs aphids for my indoor plants, but I lost the plants after the summer, so it was ok, I got all the harvest I needed. Wishing you best of luck though!

  9. For what it’s worth, I sprayed neem around my pots and on the concrete around where they are sitting and I’ve seen a lot less Aphids. Could it be possible you don’t need to spray the plant, but rather around the plant, to keep them at bay?

My neck crawled with goosebumps when I looked at those picture. Good luck!

I have been having aphids all season off and on. I ended up having the most success with SNS 209 concentrate, which I only used after much research as to its safety. It’s a systemic remedy but the active ingredient is rosemary, so I figured it has to be safe to use, and I haven’t found any reports or evidence of anything otherwise.

    I haven’t seen any this year yet but I know they’re there….

Use Diatomaceous earth. They have it at Home Depot and Ace hardware. Put a couple spoons in a water sprayer and spray the pants all around.
