I’m putting my new Classic I together and the instructions make it seem as though the stand should have screw holes that align with the holes in the base however mine doesn’t. Did I get a bum stand, or do the screws just put pressure into the stand arms and don’t fully tighten?

No longer have my stand but IIRC it’s pressure fit. Just screw into the side of the tube to hold it, no screw holes
Your guess is correct, the screws are just pressed against that “leg”
