One of the best dining experiences of my life. As you press the unassuming door bell you are invited down into the gathering area for a drink and amuse bouche. Already, the atmosphere is warm, relaxed, comforting.

You’re then taken into the ‘restaurant’ – which is modelled after the kitchen of the Head Chef’s (Thrainn Freyr Vigfusson).

All dishes are prepared in front of you, and you’re essentially in a speak easy setting where conversations between diners and the chefs are continuous. It feels like a dinner party (a very, very good dinner party) Also, hats off to the sommelier, his knowledge of the wine pairings was astonishing, I could have talked to him for hours.

A genuinely must-do, bucket list experience.

I went for my birthday one year, and it was a great experience!

Didn’t finish my sentence – the dining area is modelled after the kitchen of the Head Chef’s grandma!

Love this place! Been three times (once pre-star), always special.

I went last night and it was incredible! Deserves more than just one star though imo

  5. Dozens of Michelin-starred meals later, ÓX still remains my favourite of all time. I honestly can’t fault it, I still think of that Rye bread regularly…

It’s going to be the very first place I visit next time I’m in Reykjavik, wouldn’t be surprised if they’re 2* by then.
