I’m new to Kamado Joe so I am not sure if that’s supposed to be happening
Is this normal for smoke to come out from the lid and bottom?

Your gasket is not sealed properly for a new Kamodo Joe. Should not be leaking from the gasket seal. Bottom smoke is probably your vent, don’t worry about that
I’ve got a KJ Connected too, and currently smoking a brisket. I’ve got the exact same issue, smoke is coming from bottom, top and gasket.
Mine has always done that from the gasket. Not an issue as long as your fire goes out in a reasonable time when you close things up
how wide open is the top vent?
Where else should it go?
Its normal. It’s always going to do that when you start the fire and wood burn a lot of white smoke. Once things settle down, it’s only going to come out of the top only.
If it’s new wait some time the gaskets will swell and seal better.
Is the fan running? Mine does that when the fan is on.
The fan is going to pressurize the vessel, yes? Does the smoke sop leaking if you open the top vent completely? If the fan goes off?
Mine does that if the FireBoard drive fan turns on. I don’t think there’s a problem with the seals because the fire goes out when I close down the vents.
Mine does this when it’s first igniting the coals and the fan is on. Only an issue if yours is doing this the whole way through a cook and the fan is off. There’s videos on YT on how to tighten thr seal.
Am I the only one triggered by the mat under a grill?
