My family and i are going out to celebrate today and chose a Vietnamese/japanese restaurant. They felt bad after reserving because they remembered I hate any type of seafood and apologized to me. I decided I wanna try and end my fear of eating fish by starting with sushi. But I have no idea what I should get. I reallyy don't want to order something bad and end up never trying sushi again.

So do you guys have any recommendations on what I should get? Maybe something not raw? Or at least with alot of sauce?

Honestly you can’t go wrong with any of the rolls into “flambeled rolls” category. None are raw and you can’t go wrong with cream cheese.

The flambeled or fried rolls would be easiest to try.

I’d stay away from Surimi. It’s a cheap ingredient that’s neither worth the money nor the stomach space.
If you’re not so much into raw fish yet, the “spicy tuna” is usually cooked.

Also I personally love salmon paired with mango and if you go for a plain piece with just rice, eel(unagi) has way more to offer than salmon or tuna in my opinion.

  4. Try Salmon Nigiri (2 pieces) or the Salmon Inside Out (8 pieces). Salmon always tastes good to me.

Nigiri – Cooked prawns are a good backup option (but that’s not raw fish). I don’t recommend eating the tail.

Don’t try and be hardcore about it, if anything introducing my picky eating children had to start with safe options. A good example is Hamazushi restaurant had cucumber making which is just cucumber rice and nori, then kalbi beef, then cooked shrimp with flame broiled cheese on top, then tuna mayo, then raw tuna then ikura octopus and so on. It was very gradual. Doesn’t hurt to pretend to be a kid again, and give yourself lots of slack and start with “safe bets” first

Salmon roe with a quail egg on top. You won’t regret it.

It all looks good to me. I’d try it all at least once. It is hard to choose one. Maybe one of the Charlie Brown bowls. Any of them sounds like a winner.

Heard me out, avocado with soy sauce tastes exactly like salmon.. start from there

Go for a salmon and avocado something. Basic af

  10. I’d recommend to go to a better sushi place. This seems like a typical “generic Asian food place in Europe” not run by Japanese people, they all have the same things, not much nigiri or sashimi, whole bunch of rolls with a lot of sauce. Fish is usually not the best quality there and choice is minimal, no different cuts. If a place offers only a generic cut of salmon or tuna, I tend to avoid them – they have very different texture and taste then actual Japanese places.

If you want to enjoy sushi, find a different spot (in this place, probably run by Vietnamese, I would recommend eating Vietnamese meals, just be aware if coriander tastes to you like soap, ask them to skip coriander).

The Nicolach Cage is the only correct answer

The first mistake was going to a Vietnamese/Japanese fusion place. Just get an avocado roll.

  13. spicy tuna was the first time I went “I get it now” with raw fish, but that was back in middle school for me

Salmon and tuna are always good to try.. get some veg ones.. some fun ones are always good too

  15. I’m just curious… Why do you want yourself to like it if you don’t? I mean you can’t force yourself to like something if you don’t enjoy it.

I hate this menu. Almost looks AI generated.

The formatting is awful, inconsistent typefaces and sizes, nothing lines up. Typos like tafu, flambered, lempura, Nicolachs, “AAL”?

Edit: Oh, I get the joke in Nicolachs now.

I would recommend going to a sushi place that doesn’t serve Vietnamese food lol. Almost every place that serves “sushi” with some other ethnically Asian food is awful.
