2015 Lelarge-Pugeot “Rouge de Meuniers” – Vrigny, Coteaux Champenois, France

100% Pinot Meunier here and a still red from Champagne. What’s not to love?

Pale ruby in color with a bit of garnet fading on the rim. Bright, snappy, elegant nose right away with lots of crushed rose petal, potting soil, brambly red fruit, and a dash of star anise.

Palate had huge acidity – like a kick in the teeth – with lean and fine tannins. More fruit here; lots of cranberry and red currant. More earth.

Overall absolutely sublime from an appellation that is hard to find in the US. I haven’t had much Coteaux Champenois but I will be coming back for this when I can. Had at a local wine bar with a burger and fries which was fantastic. I thought the bottle price was a steal at $105. Yes please!
