AngloThai earned its first Michelin star in February and has now come 7th in The National Restaurant Awards list of the UK’s top eateries.

The awards gave the verdict: “Delicate and impactful Thai food made using ingredients much closer to home,” to the restaurant in Seymour Place.

Under half British half Thai chef John Chantarasak, it blends Southeast Asian dishes with British ingredients in the likes of Beef tongue jungle curry and wok fried pak choi with cuttlefish and wild garlic.

It came in behind top placed The Ritz, Notting Hill’s The Ledbury in third, and Bouchon Racine in Clerkenwell in fifth.

The French restaurant is located upstairs at the 300-year-old Three Compasses pub in Cowcross Street and according to the website is “inspired by the bouchons of Lyon and the bistros of Paris” serving up the likes of Confit de Canard, Tete de Veau, Confit de Canard and Rillettes de Porc.

The National Restaurants Awards verdict is: “Unashamedly French food that shows the traditional bistro concept is still very much alive and kicking.”

Sadly the no 21 entry Lyle’s in Shoreditch closed down last month after 10 years with chef and founder James Lowe set to launch his own solo project.

But coming in at 50th on the list is another Marylebone favourite Kol.

The Mexican restaurant and Mezcalaria is also in Seymour Street and headed by chef Santiago Lastra.

It specialises in Mexican fine dining using seasonal British produce and was awarded a Michelin star in 2022.

Diners can enjoy creative tasting menus reimagining traditional Mexican dishes in items such as langoustine taco with smoked chili and sea buckthorn, Mole of lamb saddle with rye koji and wood sorrel, or hand dived scallop with rhubarb and pil pil.

With its warm and cosy interiors adorned with ceramics and art from Lastra’s homeland, the restaurant also has an onsite Mezcalaria – a bar serving cocktails made from agave spirits made by indie Mexican producers, infused with British foraged ingredients.
