DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) -A new “Little Italy”-themed, pop-up cafe has opened in downtown Davenport.

Cafe San Lorenzo aims to offer an authentic–yet whimsical–Italian alfresco dining experience, with a focus on shared plates and a relaxed, continental style of eating.

It’s described on Facebook as “a pop-up restaurant love letter to Italian piazza dining by the folks at The Half Nelson”. The eatery is set to be open Tuesday through Saturdays from 4:30 to 9 p.m., weather permitting, for the summer.

Menu

Located at 321 East 2nd Street, the cafe’s menu will be filled with dishes inspired by regions throughout Italy.

Patrons can expect pillowy homemade pastas, creamy polenta, and gelato. But common, Italian-American dishes such as chicken parmesan or spaghetti with meatballs will not be featured.

“Little Italy” vibe

As Kyle Kiel broadcasts live from the new spot, viewers can see that it evokes a European vibe with the space being filled with string lighting, Italian flags, and tables with red checkerboard tablecloths and Campari umbrellas.

The amenities are placed on top of an intricately-painted ground art display that looks like Italian cobblestones, tiles, bricks, a fire pit, and water complete with fish. The mural was creatively led by renowned, local muralist, Heidi Sallows.

Giallo and Gelato: Italian Frights & Bites with Last Picture House

The café is partnering with Last Picture House on Tuesday, June 17, for “Giallo and Gelato,” an Italian horror film, with 8 p.m. food and music. The movie will start at 8:45 p.m. . Admission will be $30 (antipasti and gelato included).
