CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – As part of the nation’s largest single-day food drive, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank says it has received nearly 100,000 additional pounds of food.
Last month’s Stamp Out Hunger event brought in 91,588 pounds of food and $4,423, which the Food Bank says will provide more than 75,000 meals across the region.
Livia Marrs, volunteer and Food Drive Manager with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, says it’s all thanks to the letter carriers, volunteers, and donors who helped make it happen.
“People donating money, people donating food, people helping out their post offices by volunteering,” Marrs said. “We couldn’t be more thrilled with the response and we’re just so proud of all of the people that participated.”
The Food Bank is always looking for more donations as food insecurity in our area remains high. You can find out more about how to get involved here.
