This is year one of the self watering system and the pepper plants (and one watermelon) are looking pretty happy! I have not needed to manually water them since I put them in, which was the point, but I assumed they would be going through way more water. My stock tank has only gone down one inch so I haven’t need to resupply from the sump pump yet. I assume that will change when the real heat of summer arrives.
There is definitely some variation in the water uptake though the soil but almost all of them have a bone dry top layer with water saturation about 3” down and at the root ball. I think they need some nitrogen at this point but I think directly adding to the soil is best given the slow water uptake and the fact that no roots have reached the water yet.
Also, no leaks even though I didn’t use any solvent. Huzzah!

Did you design it?
Can you go into detail on how it works? I have in ground, raised beds, container, growing in the crack of my; driveway, hydroponics, aeroponics, etc. I haven’t tried this method, so I’d like to try this.
