We get as excited for a good pasta dish as much as the next foodies, but something about the brand new trailer for upcoming Netflix movie Nonnas has us craving some fresh noodles—and also pizza, and meatballs, and anything else we can get our hands on. (And by something, we mean some incredible shots of Italian food being cooked and enjoyed.)
We already got a sneak peek at the upcoming Nonnas film, but with the release of the first trailer, we’re even more excited to see the tale of Staten Island eatery Enoteca Maria and its owner, Joe Scaravella. Nonnas stars Vince Vaughn, Linda Cardellini, Susan Sarandon, Lorraine Bracco, Brenda Vaccaro, Talia Shire, Joe Manganiello, and Drea de Matteo—and, from the trailer, we can already tell that food also plays a starring role in the film.

“We took things from the menu of the actual restaurant to bring to life,” Nonnas writer Liz Maccie says of the food featured in the movie.
Classic Italian dishes and ingredients—plus Italian and Italian-American culture—are key elements in this story of a group of older women brought together to cook their passed-down Italian recipes in the restaurant owned by Scaravella (played by Vaughn). These women (the movie’s titular nonnas) are all skilled chefs, and you can spot them cooking in the trailer, but the real actors behind the characters weren’t quite as kitchen-savvy.
“I gave up cooking a long time ago,” actor Brenda Vaccaro, who plays one of the nonnas, tells Better Homes & Gardens with a laugh.

The movie is about more than cooking alone, too: It’s also about the magic of enjoying a great meal with people you care about.
“I’m not the greatest cook in the world, but I do love to eat. I do appreciate what it takes to make a great plate of food,” says actor Lorraine Bracco, who plays another nonna.
