The results of the 2025 National Restaurant Awards are in, and the winner is one which will please traditionalists, and perhaps surprise those expecting something a bit more left-field.
The 2025 National Restaurant Awards, held on June 9th at Magazine London, celebrated the UK’s vibrant dining scene, recognizing excellence in culinary artistry, service, and innovation. The awards are determined by a voting academy comprising over 300 chefs, restaurateurs, and food writers, who select their top dining experiences from the past year.
Top Five Restaurants of 2025
The Ritz, London
For the first time in its 119-year history, The Ritz was named the UK’s best restaurant. Under the guidance of Executive Chef John Williams, the establishment offers a luxurious dining experience with French haute cuisine inspired by Auguste Escoffier. Signature dishes like crêpe suzette and tableside classics such as beef Wellington and hay-aged Bresse duck have garnered acclaim. The Ritz also earned two Michelin stars earlier this year, solidifying its position at the pinnacle of British fine dining.
Founded in 1906, the restaurant predates the title behind the awards, Restaurant magazine, by almost a century. It is also now the only one where men must wear a jacket and tie, while women are asked to arrive in evening wear.
Moor Hall, Lancashire
Moor Hall, led by Chef Mark Birchall, has been a consistent presence at the top of the National Restaurant Awards, having previously topped the list in 2019 and 2021. The restaurant is renowned for its seasonal British cuisine, utilizing produce from its own kitchen garden. Its commitment to sustainability and exceptional culinary standards have earned it widespread recognition.
The Ledbury, London
After a hiatus, The Ledbury in Notting Hill reclaimed its position among the UK’s top restaurants. Chef Brett Graham’s meticulous approach to modern European cuisine, combined with the restaurant’s warm and welcoming atmosphere, has garnered it three Michelin stars and numerous accolades.
Bouchon Racine, London
Bouchon Racine, a French bistro in the heart of London, offers a nostalgic dining experience reminiscent of Parisian cafés. Its traditional French dishes, such as escargot and coq au vin, prepared with authenticity and flair, have earned it a loyal clientele and critical acclaim.
Ynyshir, Powys
Ynyshir, located in the Welsh countryside, offers a unique dining experience that combines Japanese and Welsh influences. Chef Gareth Ward’s innovative tasting menus, featuring dishes like wagyu beef and Welsh lamb, have earned the restaurant a Michelin star and a dedicated following.
Other Notable Mentions
Lyla, Edinburgh: Led by chef Stuart Ralston, Lyla offers a predominantly seafood tasting menu and was awarded a Michelin star in February 2025. It ranked 17th on the UK’s top 100 list, making it the highest-ranking Scottish restaurant.

The restaurateur of the year was named as David Carter, the name behind Oma, 2025’s highest new entry, and Agora, the more casual restaurant below it, which was at 51.
