FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A Mediterranean-style restaurant recently opened in southwest Fort Wayne.
Hummus Republic is located on South Thomas Road near Target.
Father-son duo Arfak and Jared Uddowlah fell in love with the Hummus Republic franchise because they said the food reminded them of their Pakistani and Bangladeshi roots.
Their family has lived in Fort Wayne for over 20 years.
Jared says everything is made fresh daily, and that’s what drew him and his father toward owning this California-based franchise.
“We just want to be able to make everything accurately, and also be able to share that excitement with the customers that come in the door,” he said.
Jared said he is excited to bring some of the flavors he grew up with to the “Summit City.”
“It’s really important for us that, that Fort Wayne loves what we are cooking, and loves the service when they step through that door,” he said. “We’ve been part of this community for like 20 years now. We just really hope that Fort Wayne enjoys it.“
A big reason why Jared chose to do a soft opening is so staff gets more experience before the big opening day. So far, a large part of his business has been word of mouth.
“We have been inviting friends and family to come through the doors,” he said. “[We] tell them to try the food out as we are making it and preparing it.”
The restaurant’s official grand opening is expected to be held sometime later this summer. The restaurant will be open every day except Sunday, and its hours will be changing to 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. next week.
