Sam’s Supper Club owner and chef Sam Boccuti offers catering and sandwiches for the Avon Lake community and beyond.

Boccuti said he has been cooking for most of his life.

“I started cooking when I was probably 3 or 4 with my grandmother,” he said. “She would put me in front of a bowl of meatballs, and I would roll them.”

Boccuti said his father, Chuck, introduced him to the restaurant scene.

“My dad owned three pizza shops when I was a kid, he passed away when I was 8,” Boccuti said.

Boccuti opened Sam’s Supper Club in August 2023.

The catering menu offers items such as lasagna, short ribs and Grandpa Sam’s Little Meatballs.

Boccuti does all the cooking.

“Everybody calls me Grandpa Sam, because I want to feed people,” he said. “I’m Italian; that’s how you fix everything.

“It’s not really a business for me. I’m just here cooking.”

In January 2024, Boccuti said he was diagnosed with lung cancer.

He said he had surgery to have his left lung completely removed.

Boccuti reopened Sam’s Supper Club  in July 2024 after he completed chemotherapy.

“The sandwich shop was really slow before I got sick, and then my wife posted on my business page and that has helped,” he said. “It has gotten a lot busier since I reopened.”

The sandwich shop’s menu contains recipes that Boccuti created.

“I make my own turkey, I make my own beef,” he said. “There’s nothing purchased.”

Boccuti offers one hot sandwich that rotates weekly.

“I do a lot of box lunch orders, which is kind of like my bread and butter,” he said.

Boccuti said Sam’s Supper Club is special because he cares about the food he puts out.

“I’d say I cook normal food that everybody understands, with flair,” he said. “I just do it the right way and put effort into it.

“I don’t just throw things together.”

Boccuti said he hopes the community will continue to support the sandwich shop.

“We’ll pretty much make anything, big or small,” he said. “We have good food; come eat it.”

Sam’s Supper Club is located at 33688 Walker Road.

The sandwich shop is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
