Just got the Smokeware.Chimney for my KJ Classic 3. Installation was simple and it is pretty snug the way it is, but I believe it should go further down, am I right? I am a little hesitant to put too much force in it. FYI it is the right one and I did remove the gasket from the old top vent.

Yes, I had to cut a bit of the tape off as it was double wrapped in parts. Just keep cutting a little off at a time but ensuring the wrap is still a full seal.
Once you’ve done that, it should slide on with a little resistance but not enough that you have to force it.

I don’t have any experience with the Smokeware cap, as I’m still rocking the original KJ Kontrol tower on my Big Joe II. I would say that if there is a good seal as you’ve pushed it down as far as you possibly can, you’d probably be fine. I know aesthetically it may not look “perfect” but if it works then that’s good, right? I’d be worried that I’d never be able to get it off when I wanted to clean it.

  3. When I bought the Smokeware Chimney last year, it wouldn’t fit properly on my Classic 3. I removed the original tape from the Joe and replaced it with the tape that came from Smokeware. It’s a simple process, and the chimney now slides all the way down.

Mine won’t go all the way down, comfortably anyway, with all the gasket material removed. This is my number one least favorite accessory for either the Classic 2 or Junior. By a mile. That ridiculous little silicone tab cover, is long gone. It’s about the same price a new tower and wish I would have just got another one of those.

  5. I got lucky, didn’t have to remove the original tape and it went on perfectly.

I agree with everyone here, as long as a smoke test shows no leak you should be fine.
