New to gardening. What is this on my red and green bell peppers? Can I save them?

Rinse it off and cover the leaves in 7 dust and cover the soil with a thin layer of cinnamon

  2. Aphids. Rinse off with water, and then try neem oil. Dont go straight to 7 dust like the other commenter said. That’s a last-ditch effort.

Aphids. Easily killed with mild soapy water.

    – Add 1/2 tbs of high quality dish soap, or 1 tbs of low quality dollar store dish soap, to 32 oz of water in a spray bottle.

    – Spray whole plant liberally top to bottom and underside of leaves. Then let sit for 15-20 min.

    – Take either hose with a nozzle with mist setting to fully rinse plant or use spray bottle with only water.

    – Best to do this when plants are not getting full sun.

    – The purpose of the spraying of the plants is to not only get off as much soap as possible but also to rinse away any dead aphids. Dead aphids can look like live aphids since they barely move when alive so can be hard to tell if you have a reinfestation or not.

    – Keep eye on plants and repeat if aphids reappear.

NOTE: People will say that you can just hose them off with plain water but I find this to not be as effective and it takes more than just a mist to do properly. Just kill ’em with soapy water and rinse.

Aphids can be fought with other insects. Some garden stores sell small boxes of live ladybugs or praying mantises. Open one such box in your pepper patch and watch the predators do what predators do.

That’s a pretty serious aphid infestation…. I would go straight to the sevin dust
