I am creative/artistic in my day to day but I drastically underestimated cookie decorating 😂 I’d love tips or recipes on how to make my icing a little less translucent, and what supplies used. Also, what order do you create your icing? How do you efficiently create your shaping icing and then your fill icing and add colors? My first stop is a rolling pin because I apparently can’t eyeball 1/4 inch of dough. Lol. My patchwork one was the best in my opinion. Thanks in advance!!

May I suggest you pay for a class? They’re under $20, and just a couple of hours. Saves you a LOT of time from trial and error. Or youtube if you don’t want to spend the money!
I learned from TikTok, the graceful baker is my favorite for decorating tips and she has my absolute favorite icing recipe.
For translucency, add some white food coloring to your base and it’ll brighten it up
I just recently started, but every batch I’ve done I add white food coloring to the base. I haven’t done a huge order or anything, so I end up with a big batch that o freeze. I start with the stiffer consistency, color that, bag it up, and then I water it down to my flood consistency.
Roll your dough between two dowel rods to maintain consistent thickness. That helps tremendously, bc when all the cookies are same they bake evenly
Are you using tipless piping bags or regular piping bags with a tip? I have found that the tipless are significantly easier for lining and flooding.
How are you making your icing? Egg white/ meringue powder is used in royal icing and makes it a nice opaque white.
It also looks like you need to make your icing a little thicker. It’ll give you more control over the decorating details.
A lot comes down to a steady hand which comes with practice
