I’m Japanese and Japanese snack lover!

I introduce “Japanese snacks” not only for their deliciousness and taste, but also for the stories and history behind them.

This time, I would like to talk about “HI-CHEW”.
It is a popular candy with a chewy texture, but have you ever wondered why Hi-Chews were created or why they are named Hi-Chews?

It says it isn’t sticky. I don’t know what variety that is, but every one I tried is sticky as heck.

I love a candy in Japan called “neriame”, where you knead the candy with the two sticks provided in the package. As you knead, the candy gets real soft and airy. It’s cool cause you have to kind of put in effort to enjoy it.

There’s a distributor in the US outside of Burlington, NC

The Kiwi one has actual kiwi seeds in it, for some reason

  5. The chews with the little gummies in them are amazing. Puchao’s

I don’t get it. Japanese people were unsure about chewing gum in public so a company created…chewing gum?

This is really interesting, and I thank you for such a cool video!

Japan, to me, is a really special place, and I would absolutely love to travel everywhere from Wakkanai to Okinawa.

As for the food, well… It’s top tier, without a doubt!

The snacks are great too, though I haven’t tried too many, as the only way for me to find them is to visit an Asian grocery shop, and it’s not all that cheap in Australia

Nonetheless, you seem like an awesome person, with an equally awesome passion for Japanese snacks, and that has earned my respect.

Once again, thank you for teaching us about Hi-Chew!

    ありがとうございます!
