Italian cuisine is popular around the world, and the U.S. has plenty of Italian-themed restaurants to prove it. There were actually 59,754 Italian Restaurants in the U.S. as of 2023, which was up 3.8 percent from 2022, according to research from IBIS World. It’s a trend, and they also report that the number of Italian Restaurants in the U.S. went up 3.8 percent per year on average between 2018 and 2023.
With all the great restaurants throughout the country, that makes for a lot of competition. But, there’s nothing wrong with some extra places to grab some delicious pizza and pasta. However, as with all restaurants, sometimes, it’s just time to close and start a new chapter.
One beloved Italian restaurant that’s experienced a decade of “unforgettable” moments has sadly announced that it’s closing. But, there’s still a little time to get there, because the restaurant will close on June 29.
A longtime Italian restaurant in Grosse Pointe Woods, a suburb of Detroit, is closing for good. Ferlito’s Restaurant took to social media this month to announced that it will permanently close its Mack Avenue location on June 29.
“After 10 unforgettable years, we’ve made the incredibly hard decision to close Ferlitos Restaurant,” owner Joshua Mowen said in social media. “Our last day of service will be Sunday, June 29.” He added that the restaurant has “pivoted, adjusted, reimagined, renovated and reinvented ourselves over the years” and “have had to navigate a lot.”
In the heartfelt message, Mowen also thanked his loyal clientele, stating, “to everyone who supported us, laughed with us, cried with us, and even to our haters and critics you’ve made this more than just a place to eat. We appreciate you.” He added, “You’ve been part of something truly special, and we’ll never forget it.”
While the restaurant will close, Mowen says they’ll still have “a carry out location for you to come see us,” which is located in St. Clair Shores, MI, another Detroit suburb.
