String of Hoboken Robberies Over the Weekend Prompts Police Statement

A string of robberies has prompted a Hoboken police statement on Sunday, June 8th. The first incident reported took place on June 6th, and three more incidents occurred throughout the weekend. A total of four police reports have been filed around incidents of robberies occurring on the street at the time of this publication, and now several juveniles have been identified in connection with the incidents. Luca Brasi’s Italian Deli in Hoboken Up for Sale; Owners Retiring

The Hoboken Girl team was made aware on Monday, June 9th, that Luca Brasi’s Italian Deli, located at 100 Park Avenue in Hoboken, is currently seeking new owners. A representative for the family-owned business shared that the owners are retiring and plan to spend more time with their family in Greece. DOMODOMO Team to Open New Restaurant, BRBQ, in Jersey City

 

BRBQ, the newest concept from the acclaimed DOMODOMO team, is set to open June 20th at Journal Square Urby, directly across from the Journal Square PATH. This new spot will deliver innovative Korean-American cuisine, wood-fired flavors, and vibrant café energy. BRBQ will open Tuesday through Thursday from 12PM to 2:30PM for lunch, 3PM to 5PM for happy hour, and 5PM to 9PM for dinner. On Fridays through Sundays, the restaurant will be open from 11AM to 2:30PM for lunch and 5PM to 10PM for dinner.

Signage Up for Woof Gang Bakery + Grooming in Hoboken

The retail space at 1112 Washington Street in Hoboken was formerly home to the beloved Giorgio’s Bakery, which closed in 2021. Then, plans were announced for the space to become an artisanal ice cream shop. The ice cream shop never came to fruition, but new plans have been approved for the space to become a Woof Gang Bakery + Grooming location. As of early June, signage has been put up. Cyndi Lauper was spotted having dinner at Leo’s Grandevous at 200 Grand Street in Hoboken on Monday, June 9th. Cyndi is an Emmy, Grammy, and MTV VMA-winning American singer, songwriter, and actress, best known for her worldwide hit, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Ronnie from MTV’s Jersey Shore to Host Event at Madd Hatter in Hoboken

Madd Hatter announced on Instagram that Ronnie from MTV’s Jersey Shore is hosting the “Jersey Shore Takeover Pt2” on July 12th. This event will feature celebrity appearances, beach vibes, summer specials, live DJs, and dancing all night. More special guests are to be announced soon. Click here for tickets.

Planters Destroyed Across Jersey City Two Days in a Row

 

On June 12th, the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District shared on Instagram that after eight months of hard work and investment in revitalizing Jersey City planters, someone destroyed them on Grove Street and also damaged nearby cars and small business properties. There is video footage of the incident, and a police report was filed. Then, on June 13th, more planters were destroyed across Downtown Jersey City. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Jersey City Police Department.

International Day of Yoga to Return to Hoboken for 2025

The International Day of Yoga returns to Hoboken this year, now in partnership with the General Consulate of India. The free, public event is happening on Saturday, June 21st, from 11AM to 6:15PM at Pier A Lawn in Hoboken. All five yoga studios in Hoboken will have teachers offering classes. Guests can expect a full day of guided yoga sessions, meditation, community connection, and views of the NYC skyline.

Hoboken’s Mile Square Cafe Planning to Open in Early Summer

Mile Square Cafe, a new concept from the team behind local favorite O’Bagel, is coming to 746 Park Avenue in Hoboken. As of May 2025, signage has gone up at the space, with plans to open sometime before the 4th of July. Click here for more.

New Dispensary ‘Hudsonica’ Opens in Uptown Hoboken

Hoboken has a maximum of six operating dispensaries allowed in the city at a time, and a new business has taken the fourth slot. Hudsonica Dispensary, located at 363 15th Street, opened its doors on June 6th, 2025. Click here for more.

Commuters Overcharged for PATH Rides Using TAPP

In May 2024, the Port Authority rolled out a new contactless payment system for PATH trains called TAPP. Short for Total Access PATH Payment, TAPP is an open-loop contactless payment system that allows riders to use their own preferred method of contactless payment instead of a specific PATH-issued SmartLink card or a pay-per-ride MetroCard. While this newer payment system is meant to streamline the process, as riders no longer have to stand in lines waiting to refill their SmartLink or MetroCards, many riders have reported issues like payment errors, card reading failures, and double-charges for rides they didn’t take. Legal Thriller, Coin Toss/A Place in Hell, Filming in Hoboken

Coin Toss (aka A Place in Hell) is a new legal thriller that follows two women who work at a high-profile criminal law firm. The film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People, War of the Worlds, Cold Feet), Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine, My Week With Marilyn, Brokeback Mountain), and Douglas Dickerman (Ozark, Acrimony). Grant Wilfley Casting is seeking extras from NYC, Jersey City, Hoboken, Newark, Kearny, and Bayonne, per a casting call. The film shot in Jersey City on May 27th and May 28th. New Jersey residents voted in the Primary Election on June 10th, 2025, for the upcoming Governor Race in November. The Primary Election ballot included 18 candidates, including Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop. On June 10th, Garden State residents casted their ballots for the 2025 New Jersey Primary Election. Along with the upcoming governor race in November, residents voted for their district’s New Jersey General Assembly. There are 40 districts in New Jersey, and Hoboken and parts of Jersey City fall into District 32, where Hoboken Mayor Ravinder Bhalla and Hoboken Public Library Director Jennie Pu ran for a seat. Blue Angel Artisan Cafe + Bakery Soft Opens in Hoboken

 

Back in July 2024, local java staple Hidden Grounds announced the closure of its downtown location at 79 Hudson Street. Now, a new Korean café, Blue Angel Artisan Cafe + Bakery, has taken over the space. The new spot hosted its soft opening on June 10th. Click here for more.

Unilever Officially Opens North American Headquarters in Hoboken

Unilever, the world’s sixth-largest consumer goods company, has relocated its North American headquarters from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, to the Hoboken waterfront. Hoboken Unveils Renovation Concept Designs

The City of Hoboken unveiled preliminary concept designs for Tom Olivieri Park improvements, including new inclusive playground equipment, an upgraded spray area, a public bathroom, and other amenities. Per a City of Hoboken press release, the city launched an online public survey to gather community feedback, which will be used for the creation of the final concept design of the park. The online survey can be found here and is scheduled to close on June 23rd at 5PM.

FIFA Fan Fest Celebrates World Cup Event at Liberty State Park

A fan fest at Liberty State Park in Jersey City will be open for all 104 games of the 2026 World Cup, and a big kickoff event was held on June 11th to celebrate one year out. Per NBC, Alex Lasry, CEO of the NYNJ Host Committee, and Governor Phil Murphy attended the event. The World Cup will be co-hosted by the U.S., Mexic,o and Canada. The tournament, expanded to 48 nations from 32, opens June 11, 2026, in Mexico Cit,y and the final will be July 19, 202,6 at East Rutherford, New Jersey. Games will be played at 11 U.S. venues, three in Mexico and two in Canada, with all matches in the U.S. from the quarterfinals on.

Small Section of Hoboken’s 1600 Park to Close for Hudson Tunnel Project

A small section of Hoboken’s 1600 Park will be temporarily closed for construction activity as part of the Hudson Tunnel Project. Per the Hudson County View, the Hudson Tunnel Project, which includes the construction of new passenger rail tunnels under the Hudson River and the rehabilitation of existing tunnels, will temporarily impact a portion of the park starting in mid-2026. Jake Wade, a senior environmental planner, said the temporary occupancy in Hoboken is expected to last approximately 14 months, from mid-2026 to mid-2027.

Christie’s International Real Estate Group announced a new waterfront condominium penthouse currently available in Hoboken, located on the 13th floor of 2 Constitution Court. Hoboken to Host Virtual Meeting on Willow Avenue Improvements

The City of Hoboken and Hudson County invite community members to participate in a virtual meeting on June 25th from 6PM to 7PM to provide feedback on potential Vision Zero safety improvements along Willow Avenue between 11th and 16th Streets. Per a City of Hoboken press release, proposed Vision Zero improvements could include curb extensions to shorten crossing distances and improve visibility, high-visibility crosswalks, rapid flashing beacons, pedestrian refuge islands, protected bike lanes, and more. Hoboken Community Center Welcomes New Members to Board of Directors

 

The Hoboken Community Center (HCC) announced the appointment of Aaron Price, President and CEO of TechUnited:NJ, and Amanda Morrison, founder and CEO of Don’t Sit Home, to its Board of Directors. Both Aaron and Amanda are Hoboken residents. The HCC is a nonprofit organization with a three-pronged mission consisting of affordable housing for 96 low-income men, a food, hygiene, and pet supply pantry, and a 40,000+ square foot community and recreation center under evaluation for the feasibility of remodeling rehabilitation.

Man Sues Jersey City Police for Assault + Discrimination

A Bloomfield man has filed a federal lawsuit claiming Jersey City police assaulted him over a parking spot at a bar, pulled a bag over his head, and arrested him on false charges, per NJ.com. Gregory claims he parked his car at Halftime Bar and Grill on March 4th. A police officer yelled at him to move, according to the suit. After he complied and headed to the bar, he was allegedly assaulted, placed into a police car with a bag over his head, assaulted again, then arrested on charges that were later dropped. The suit claims that the department discriminates against minorities.

Missing 10-Year-Old Girl Found Safe in Jersey City

A missing 10-year-old girl from Jersey City, last seen at Newport Centre Mall with an unidentified man, has been found safe, per a Jersey City police spokeswoman. Following a citizen’s tip regarding her possible location, Jersey City Police Department Detectives responded to an address within the Salem-Lafayette apartment complex at approximately 1PM on June 9th. The girl was in good health, and her parents were immediately notified and responded. The investigation remains ongoing.

Resiliency Park Splash Pad in Hoboken Reopens After Closure

After a small earthquake rattled North Jersey on April 5th of last year, the splash pad at the relatively new Northwest Park, a resiliency park that absorbs water during floods, was out of commission due to earthquake damage. Per Patch Hoboken, the splash pad was observed working again on June 12th.

Jersey City Approves New Development on Summit Avenue

During the May 27th meeting, Jersey City’s Planning Board approved an application for 146 Summit Avenue. Per Jersey Digs, the irregularly shaped lot sits at the road’s intersection with Fairmount Avenue, directly across from The Summit, one of the more modern and taller developments in the neighborhood. It is also just a short walk from Fairmount Park, a fairly new green space that opened about two years ago.

Hoboken’s My Way Sinatra Sing-Off Winners Announced

 

The Hoboken Historical Museum hosted the My Way Sinatra Sing-Off in partnership with the City of Hoboken on June 12th. Contestants sang their favorite Sinatra tune before a panel of judges and the public. Hoboken’s own John Rinell won first place, Marco Barrios won second place, and Michael Patrick Dominick won third place.

Jersey City Child Killed in Pedestrian Accident

On Friday, June 13th, a Jersey City child was fatally struck by a car near the intersection of 6th Street and Jersey Avenue in Jersey City, per the Hudson County View.
