NAPERVILLE, IL — Pronto Italian Sandwiches is preparing to open in downtown Naperville, offering an array of Italian-inspired handhelds, salads and bowls. The sandwich shop will be located at 221 S. Washington.

The sandwiches at Pronto come served on torpedo bread or schiaccita bread that is baked in-house. The schiaccita, or “pressed,” bread has a crisp exterior and is soft on the inside, according to the eatery’s website.

Diners will have their choice of an array of sandwiches to choose from on Pronto’s menu. Most of the sandwiches take their name from famous Italian celebrities. There’s the Loren, which comes piled high with spiced zucchini, artichokes, roasted eggplant and fresh mozzarella, and is slathered with sun-dried tomato spread. The Scorsese accents a base of burrata, mortadella and arugula with hot honey, pistachios and pistachio cream.

Minestrone, chopped salads and health-conscious bowls are also available.

Pronto Italian Sandwiches got its start in Hinsdale in 2009 by Dana and Peter Burdi. The pair celebrated the grand opening of their O’Hare location in mid-March.
