I’d harvest it pronto. The florets are starting to open.

It can maybe go longer, I usually harvest once the heads start to separate a little bit and it’s not such a dense cluster, however if you like the stalks waiting that long could lead to stalks splitting

Weather is also a factor, to many bright sunny days at this stage can burn the Broccoli so of you’re expecting hot sunny weather, it may be a good idea to harvest now.

Harvesting is best done in the early morning before plants have had any chance to wilt in the sun

i will get bigger but only as flowers. its getting ready to bolt.

Also eat the leaves. They are good and can be used like collards. I bake them for crispy chip like things.

Harvest right now. It’s turning into a flower and is going to be bitter and terrible by tomorrow

It’s best day was probably yesterday or the day before. I can see them opening. You have a tight harvest window for broccoli. It’s not about size it’s about getting it right before the flowers open. The broccoli head is an unbloomed flower stalk

You probably should have picked it a couple of days ago, it’s going to bolt soon.

Ok I hear yall! I have been dying to eat something from the garden so I will be harvesting now (as soon as I can find a big enough knife).

Last moment to harvest, it’s about to flower.

  10. Harvest, soak in salt water to clean of pests, wait for a potential second crown.

  11. I see you posted this an hour ago. It may already be too late. Harvest it now.

It’s a little late. The yellow is starting. Pick and use quick.

As others have said, it’s a few days past prime. Since broccoli is a flower, you want to eat it when the flower buds are tightly closed. It gets more and more bitter as it gets closer to blooming. If you have other broccoli plants, harvest when the buds are still green. If you’re not sure when, look at fresh broccoli in the grocery and harvest when your plants look like that.

Don’t take out the whole plant though. Just slice at an angle below the head. You can get more smaller heads throughout the season and also harvest the leaves…very tasty.

Use a clean sharp knife to cut it so you don’t spread disease , so your plant will start throwing broccolini.
Also put a table spoon of 21-0-0 fertilizer and water on good and get ready for a lot of broccolini’s

It’s about to expand and flower. Now is the time
