    That’s less than 2 cents

The knives are always picked clean at the thrift shops I circle through. I’ve gotten a couple high quality pans, however.

A buddy of mine found an old beat to shit Le Creuset Dutch oven with almost no enamel left on the cooking surface. He bought it for a dollar, took it to a Le Creuset dealer and got it warranty replaced with a brand new one.

Toss that fluted honing rod, and search for a ceramic. Fluted rods are great at chipping knives.

It’s cool you got a decent looking petty knife!

    Yup!

Bigtime thrifter here. My gf and I travel around to as many thrift stores as we can and I always look through the bundles/bags of random kitchen stuff and knives.

I have 7 paring knives now, all commercial-grade with many brand-name ones with colored handles.

I found what wound up usurping my main chef knife (a workhorse of a Victorinox for all of 16 years) with a yellow-handled Zwilling J. A. Henckels I got for $1 at a garage sale. I love that knife so damn much that I think my Vic was a *mistake* this whole time, lol. The knife is so perfect it feels like it “fits” my entire body somehow. ONE DOLLAR.

I also managed to collect a bunch of vintage tools, like super-heavy serving spoons, a variety of old can openers, thermometers, interesting frying pans, about 6-7 peelers and so on.

Definitely! r/thriftstorehauls. I bought a (nearly) never used Staub cast iron /enameled pan in beautiful cherry red for $15, some great wooden handled Japanese vegetable knives for 75 cents, just needed to be resharpened… they’re in every day use. FOUND a le Creuset Dutch oven in the street that just needed elbow grease that’s now my bread baking oven… people have no idea the treasures they donate.

No shame in finding bargains that need a little love! They’re built to last.

Nice!  I got some Henkels at a garage sale 30 years ago.  Not my favorites but functional.  I think I paid like $5 each.  You’re so lucky!

    That’s not just a bargain, it’s a steel.

All I can think is “someone got a new poop knife”

Picked up an All-Clad 12 inch frypan for $3. Looked really bad, but it wasn’t warped and barkeeper’s friend and a lot of elbow grease got it to like new. Got a 10 inch Mac chef’s knife. a Mac filet knife, and a German carving fork: $5 for the lot. Those were two very good days.
