I’ve been watching the influencer Jessica marchi a lot lately and she scolds her American partner and Americans for Italian no-no’s
She scolds her partner for the American concept of brunch- she says it’s either breakfast or lunch and if she misses breakfast, it’s onto lunch- and for her breakfast isn’t eggs and bacon…it’s brioche and cappuccino
Aside from that, she says cappuccino can only be served for breakfast

So why is cappuccino only served during breakfast? If you want coffee later in the day, it’s caffe(which is an espresso) or macchiato which has a little bit of milk but it has no where as much milk as a cappuccino

This is some internet bullshit. Cappuccino is a big no at the end of a meal.
Said that, Cappuccino is seen as a breakfast food so Italians usually drink it for breakfast. But there are people having it in the afternoon, it’s just not common.
We are simple people, milk is only drunk for breakfast, cappuccino has milk ergo it’s a breakfast item.
you can get a cappuccino whenever you want, but it’s just unusual to take after a major meal like lunch or dinner.
I sure am not allowed to write vulgarities, just say, it would make bowl movements dangerous.
Do not order a a cappuccino after noon. Just not done. Kind of like ordering a beer with your breakfast at a diner in America.
Milk in general is associated with breakfast, in Italy.
Just like eggs are often associated with breakfast in non-Italian European culture
There’s no place for milk as a drink anywhere past 10 am.
The likely reason as to why you guys drink cold milk during meals other than breakfast (which, by the way, is downright disgusting and unhealthy) is that dairy companies lobbied hard for it sometime in the 50’s. Many such cases.
Basically for Italians breakfast is a fast sweet meal to start the day, cappuccino and cornetto is the ultimate combo for breakfast at a bar so it is traditionally associated with breakfast.
Most people will find it strange to order it after lunch.
With that said I’m Italian, I don’t like coffee and since sometimes I got at a bar in the afternoon too, sometimes I get cappuccino after lunch.
It’s not like they don’t serve you what you want, it is just not that common.
brunch is what we in Italy call an americanata (something from US that’s exaggerated/strange for us) , it’s not something that most people do but still, nothing wrong with it, some people even like it. I like the American breakfast when I’m in vacation at a hotel since I can eat a lot in the morning and skip lunch or keep it light with a sandwich to watch more museums or historical church or something like that… When I’m on vacation I got more time for breakfast and I want more time for fun stuffs in the lunch time.
The fact that people seem to be agreeing with this thing is so annoying. IRL nobody will give a crap if you have milk in the afternoon. Order what you want at the bar. There’s people adding sambuca to their coffee at 8 am and no one bats an eye. Stop making us Italians sound like such gatekeeper dweebs.
Everyone saying no milk after breakfast while half of Italy gets a machiatto at 5pm
you can have it during the afternoon, even if it’s not common.
What will get you the side eye is to request it DURING a meal (lunch or dinner).
