They’re from Mexico so they have different feed. And they just look a little round but they’re ribeyes.

They left the lifter meat on the outside along with more fat than you’d see at most shops. The fat is more yellow which may indicate an older animal as well due to the build off of beta carotene in the fat over a longer lifespan. (This I learned on a different Reddit post)

I don’t trust steaks I find at the Mexican grocery stores.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s one near my house I use all the time for pork butts, meat for carnitas, and other things. But not steaks.

Yes it’s a ribeye but they don’t have a meat grade on them.
So they’re probably select, or worse.

99 ranch is a Chinese grocery store

For 13 bucks whats the loss just buy them and grill them

nice looking grass fed ones as well . . . .

I’m already past the ribeyes. Those beef ribs look interesting!

Also, Asian, Mexican, different butchering style, or whatever, I’d devour everything in that pic…

I get thin deli sliced ribeye from H mart for hot pot. Makes great cheese steak sandwiches.

Hmart beef for steaks always tastes off and is super tough. Not sure why. but I guess you get what you pay for.

  10. If it’s 3 rib eyes for $13, then it’s not rib eyes.

You get what you pay for. I frequent the Hispanic, Asian, and Polish markets for meat, but if I want a great steak I go to the butcher.

Not sure about those “Ribeyes” but those ribs behind them look great.

Those are NY strips. Fry up with some horseradish and pickled beets for good eats!

  14. Yes, they’re ribeye steaks. Just butchered in an unusual way. They probably taste different because they’re grass fed, which has a stronger flavour than the more grain fed American beef (can see it in the colour of the fat).

Did you go to the store on Hall? I like that location

That’s Ribeye Beff they serve it at the Hungry Heifer with the Loobster

It’s hard to tell the thickness from just a picture but $7.99 a pound isn’t completely unheard of. Every once in a while our small town grocery store will have a sale like that. Though my small town is in Kansas. Where meat prices tend to be a little better than places that aren’t 80% farm land. We had $7.99 lb T-bones this last week. Though they clearly weren’t not prime lol.

They look deformed ill jus stick to my mom and pop stores for my meat at least ik where it coming from.

  19. KyndaBored

Yes, this is a ribeye. Looks like it was cut closer to the chuck end. But it’s definitely some sort of deformity or has a fat mass.

  20. Redditplaneter

Stay away from the meats in these Asian markets. It’s sketchy as fck.

  21. JRTerrierBestDoggo

Get those rib eyes when it looks good, every now and then they have those with good marbling. As for the one in your pic, avoid

  22. txbill101

Probably came from one of the horses that broke down in Churchhill Downs

  23. yeeyeeyee88

Never buy meat from 99 ranch. Low quality meat all the time
