Start 2025 with Italian comfort food in a homey setting. Napoli Pizza & Pasta has been Astoria’s go-to since 1997 and every visit feels like a meal at nonna’s house, making classic Napolitano style pizza, pasta, and hearty, fresh entrées at great prices!
You can smell the tantalizing aromas from the pizza oven outside on 35th Avenue. Once you’re inside this casual eatery, you’ll find friends, couples, families, and kids dining on their favorite slices and dishes. Owner Antonio Petito runs the kitchen while lovely Maria and Milly tend to guests with a smile.
We started with their signature garlic bread that is vampire-proof, along with a vibrant Caesar salad, crispy, fried calamari, a glass of red wine and a Peroni beer. Other appetizers include crispy baked clams, bruschetta, fried zucchini, and perfectly prepared eggplant rollatini rolled with fluffy ricotta. Many folks share a whole pizza to start with or a smaller version called “pizzette” topped as you like. My friend’s pasta e fagioli soup is a bowl of goodness to warm you inside and out, and at $6.95, it’s a bargain. Creamy burrata rests on a bed of fresh greens surrounded by sliced cherry tomatoes, drizzled with fragrant balsamic dressing.

Napoli has your favorite pasta dishes, all made fresh and served piping hot. Choose your type of pasta to go into all their sauces from the traditional spaghetti Pomodoro with the family recipe tomato basil sauce to pasta Bolognese with rich, meaty sauce. Linguine frutta di mare is a seafood feast with tender calamari, shrimp, clams, and a bouquet of mussels in a garlicky tomato sauce to be soaked up with crusty bread ($23.95). My spaghetti Puttanesca sauce with onion, tomatoes, anchovies, capers, and black olives was so delicious and satisfying ($11.95). Linguine or spaghetti with red or white clam sauce is full of juicy clams while fettuccine Alfredo has a delectably creamy sauce. Napoli’s homemade lasagna, manicotti, stuffed shells, and baked ziti are great for dinner or Antonio will happily cater for your next family or business event. A full catering menu is available on their website.

Classic chicken parm, veal or eggplant parm are on the menu, though there’s much more to try. Chicken Francese has a light, lemony sauce, and chicken Marsala has a splash of sweet wine. Chicken Milanese is a golden fried cutlet served with a side of pasta. Shrimp scampi, fried shrimp, or shrimp parm are all good choices. There’s a Chef’s fish special every night and I love the flaky filet of flounder with butter and lemon sauce. All entrées are served with a side of pasta or a crunchy salad.
Napoli Pizza and Pasta has some of the best pies in town. The light, crisp crust holds all your favorite toppings. Order the classic round pie or the rectangular Sicilian pie directly from their website or by calling 718.472.1146. The Casalinga has eggplant, mozzarella, and tomato sauce, while the Nonno is a rectangular pie with plum tomatoes, fresh garlic, mozzarella, and cheese ($21). Hot calzones and rolls stuffed with sausage and peppers, ham and cheese, and garlic knots are great for lunch or dinner. Burgers sizzle on the grill too, topped with cheese, bacon, or try the pizza burger.

For dessert, Napoli has homemade Italian cheesecake, zeppoles dusted with powdered sugar, cannolis, tiramisu, or tartufo ice cream. Share a few treats for the table or take them home!
