It should thicken up with coconut milk… I think it depends on the milk you used.

Too much liquid? I put 3 T. in about a cup of liquid. I often stir at one more time as it chills but not always.

How long have you waited? Check back in 10 min if you haven’t waited at all.

I usually have to let mine sit overnight in order for the chia seeds to be totally un-crunchy and more tapioca-like. I use 1:4 ratio of seeds to liquid.

I also usually hit them when the immersion blender before letting them sit. This de-clumps them really well, and I also feel like breaking them up helps them release their slime powers. I’m not sure if that last part is just my imagination though.

This is totally unscientific but I have more success when I put it in a sealed jar and put it on its side in the fridge. Something about the surface area seems to help. In the way you pictured, as they expand, they kind of get clogged at the bottom.

I use a glass Tupperware bowl with a snap lid. It could be the shape of the vessel you used as the chia appears to be collecting at the bottom.

I use 2-1/2 T chia, and 1/2 cup milk. I also add a little sweetener, miralax, and clear metamucil. I stir every few minutes until the chia no longer settles on the bottom, and looks pretty uniform. Usually takes me about 15 minutes. I add the miralax and metamucil to get my daily dose while not tasting it.

It looks like there’s too much fluid. I start mixing things right when I add the seeds, because they start thickening up almost instantly. Otherwise, they’ll clump up, which looks like what happened here. I use about 2tbsp chia seeds to 6-8 ounces of liquid.

  9. Mine always does the same, I mix it several times and eventually it becomes more even. Also, probably there’s too much liquid.
