For Massachusetts, Foodie Haven named Galleria Umberto, a Boston pizzeria, as the best in the state.

Here’s what Foodie Haven had to say about this classic joint:

“Picture this: it’s lunchtime in Boston, and you’re lining up at Galleria Umberto. This iconic pizzeria serves some of the best Sicilian-style pizza you’ll ever taste. The secret? A perfect balance of crisp crust and savory toppings. Add an arancini to that order, and you won’t regret it.”

Galleria Umberto has “gained legendary status among locals and visitors alike” and serves Italian delicacies from “mouthwatering Sicilian pizza to indulgent calzones,” according to its website. And the classic slices come at a price that’s also a throwback: $1.85.

The cash-only restaurant has earned a 4.8-star rating on 1,188 Google reviews, with many diners saying it’s one of the best pizzas you’ll ever have.

The restaurant was founded in 1974 by Umberto Deuterio and passed down to his sons, Paul and Ralph.

This isn’t the first time the humble pizzeria has earned recognition: it was selected by the prestigious James Beard Foundation in 2018 as part of its “American Classics” awards.

The restaurant is located at 289 Hanover St. and has hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Galleria Umberto is closed Sundays.
