With the weather getting warmer, picnics in the park become a popular pastime during this season. Picnics offer a laid-back way to enjoy meals with loved ones outside and bask in the sunshine.
They’re also a favourite for couples seeking simple yet romantic date ideas, providing an easy and affordable alternative to dining in restaurants. Today marks International Picnic Day, presenting the perfect opportunity to gather your friends for an alfresco feast in your nearest green space. A bit of food, drinks and perhaps a blanket to avoid grass stains are all you need for a budget-friendly outdoor meal. While some prefer whipping up homemade treats like bite-sized quiches or sandwiches, those less inclined to cook can easily grab picnic essentials from the supermarket, as Bex Card UK showcased on TikTok.
The children’s debit card brand posted a clip guiding viewers through Aldi’s picnic selection. They stated: “Here in the UK it’s finally picnic season so come with us to Aldi to get the essentials for under £10.
“You can get savoury food like sausage rolls and chicken poppers from as little as £1. They also highlighted: “Don’t forget the dip selections which are only £1.99. Packs of fizzy drinks are so affordable in Aldi.”
Aldi’s range includes six-packs of soft drinks such as Vive Cola, Vive Orange Zero, and Vive Tropical Blast for just £1.99, not to /mention a two-litre bottle of Vive lemonade for 49p.

To complement the dips, Bex Card suggests grabbing some crisps and they discovered a bag of tortilla chips, similar to Doritos, for just 95p.
They noted: “It’s strawberry season and Aldi is probably the cheapest place you’re going to find them.
“Finally, we’ve got a pack of ice lollies for £1.69. Can you believe all of this was under £10?”
Picnics typically feature a variety of both savoury and sweet items, along with fruit and chilled beverages to stay refreshed during the warm summer months.
The ideal picnic spread includes easy-to-share finger foods and snacks rather than elaborate meals requiring cutlery.
Love and Lemons has put together 51 picnic food suggestions, including timeless Caprese sandwiches, chicken shawarma wraps, pasta salad, focaccia bread, and lemon cookies.
Days of the Year refers to International Picnic Day as a “chance to eat in the open air with family or friends”.
If the weather isn’t ideal for outdoor dining, it recommends laying out a blanket indoors and enjoying a laid-back meal.
It also mentions that various events such as charity fundraisers, school picnics, and group gatherings are often organised to celebrate the day.
Days of the Year suggests having a ‘personal picnic’ and notes that those who are at work can just use their normal lunch break to head out to a patch of grass or nearby park.
