Since Saint Germain opened about a month ago in the Eaton Centre whenever I’m in the area I pop in to grab a bite. Very happy that the Hong Kong style bakery opened a downtown location. The quality is much better than the usual suspects around Spadina Chinatown, albeit at a slight premium ($3 vs $2 per item).
Unlike my previous visits, I got to the bakery just after they opened at 10am. So the char siu bao I got was still warm, fresh from the oven. The tender pillowy bao was nicely filled with sweet and savoury bbq pork goodness.
But what keeps me coming back for more is the must get chicken pies. Inside the spherical, wonderfully short crumbly crust are piec s if dark meat with a lightly peppery and oniony creamy sauce.
The bakery is at the Dundas end of the mall, one below the main floor. A welcome new option to grab a light breakfast or snack in the centre of the city.

I was completely unimpressed with this place when I went and with what I got.
There’s two locations in the Eaton centre – not sure why you didn’t mention that!
The other is by the Milestones, and I’m pretty sure this is where they actually bake the stuff
wish they didn’t use lard :/
My azn mom did not think this place was good lol idky. She likes the Broadview Chinatown bakeries as well as Kin Kin 🤷🏻♀️ and Furama (rip) ofc
I miss Lucullus on Elm st. Was my goto. Closest one now is North York or Fairview.
Do they have hk milk tea?
This place blows your 5 mins from spadina go there
The have cakes and egg tarts as well. For egg tarts hop over a few streets and get them from the new T&T 26 Edward near Yonge.
They all taste pretty similar to me plus minus sugar
They’re a mid chain. There’s one at Fairview too, never go there
I said to myself why pay three times the price when I can get it for cheaper in Chinatown? NO THANKS
I like their corn and cream cheese bun.
They have 2 stores in the Eaton Centre!?
The problem is that people don’t see Chinese baked goods as a luxury product. This can change of course by innovating, increasing quality of ingredients, etc. But these bakeries (St. Germain, Lucullus) do neither and charge like 4 dollars per bun.
Idk if it’s because it was eaton but I had a bad experience…. I think the pastry was a bit stale… I won’t try it again
Only thing that I personally liked was the hotdog scallion bun.
I prefer the one at STC, although the scene in Scarborough Town Centre is changing a lot.
