They say it will be a “first of its kind” offering for Manchester with an Italian deli alongside their mouth-watering giant artisan sandwichesAd Maiora is opening a new sandwich shop and deli in the Northern Quarter – selling their HUGE Italian sandwiches

The couple behind a viral Manchester sandwich shop famed for its massive butties are preparing to open a new venue in the Northern Quarter – to include a unique deli offering too. Ad Maiora is known for its meaty-stuffed creations, all using their own home-made breads and authentic Italian meats and cheeses.

It’s become a big hit on social media, and they count the entire Manchester City team as fans having been asked to cater for the squad twice. Blues striker Erling Haaland was so impressed he took three of the giant subs home with him too and now has a sarnie named after him too.

The independent Italian sandwich shop is run by couple Daniela Steri and Enrico Pinn. They started their business by baking from their flat in the Northern Quarter just two years ago.

But they soon won an army of fans and were able to leave their full time jobs to move to a bigger premises in Ancoats, with a second venue following at Kargo MKT at MediaCity. Now, they will come full circle with a new deli cafe in the Northern Quarter where their business was first born.

The venue, on Tib Street, will include a “Salumeria” – an Italian deli offering where customers can buy sliced meats, cheeses and that famous home-made bread, as well as the Ad Maoira sandwiches.

Daniela told the MEN: “We are excited to finally open our first Italian sandwich shop in the NQ, the same neighbourhood where it all began two years ago when we started selling sandwiches from home.

“We are extremely proud to bring an authentic Italian sandwich shop, where customers can find high-quality products imported directly from Italy.

“The cured meats will be sliced right in front of the customers, and the sandwiches will be prepared to order, right in front of them. They’ll have the chance to choose from the ingredients displayed at our counter to create their dream sandwich.

“We will continue to use our freshly made, homemade bread (schiacciata), and customers will also have the opportunity to sit inside the shop. It will be a “Salumeria Deli Style”, the first of its kind in Manchester, with authentic Italian street food.”

The news was greeted with applause from customers and followers on social media. Katy Mckay said: “Best sandwich I ever had”, while Michelle Muchemwa said simply: “Take all my money.”

The couple, originally from Sardinia, set out with the aim to “change the Italian sandwich game” in Manchester when they first started their business. Since then they’ve been a huge hit, with their massive double decker sandwich “The Beast” going viral on social media.

The £20 Beast is their absolute mammoth of a sandwich that weighs in at more than 1kg. It has 10+ authentic Italian ingredients crammed into its freshly baked bread in double layers.

They also create more regular sized sandwiches (although they’re still huge) in single layers from £14.90 with ingredients including Parma ham, mozzarella and basil and fennel salami with truffle brie and sliced tomato.

The new Ad Maiora opens on Tib Street on Wednesday, February 26 from 12noon.
