I'm looking for reccomendations on an instant read thermometer. I know these are #1 (for a reason) I just cannot justify spending $120 on a thermometer. Call me cheap. But, does anyone have any luck with something cheaper? I'm using the probe on my Traeger Woodridge Pro and it's definitely off and is SOMEWHAT ruining some of my cooks. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

I payed like under $60 for a TPOne on their website. Check their deals/discounts, because I think they go on sale a lot.

  2. I have a Lavatools javelin pro duo and I really like it.

Been using InkBird for years. Good stuff.

  4. DO NOT buy from Amazon. That’s someone reselling from the thermoworks shop. That’s where you want it and it is like $75 and they usually throw in some candy with the product

BUT the advantage of that is the speed in which it reads. You pay a premium for something you don’t need with smoking at all. It’s needed for things that rapidly change temperature in a kitchen and you don’t have 5 seconds for it to register

The dot that they sell is probably more than sufficient to the purpose if you are looking to save a few bucks. And if you have a budget for over 100 they have some nice BBQ specific stuff

I use a $14 one from Amazon that im happy with. ThermoPro TP03H. It seems very accurate, can be calibrated, has a hook and magnet, and a light

What am I missing out on? Serious question, no smart assery intended.

  6. Just pay once for a thermapen. I’ve had mine for over 8 years. That’s $10 per year.

I use a $20 pen from Walmart and it’s been solid

  8. I grabbed one on sale and it’s great! It’s the best for a reason and comes with a factory calibration certificate. Just think how much $$ you have in meat rolling through your smoker. One bad brisket cook from a un accurate probe will almost be the cost of the thermopen. I’d buy a shit one to get you by then buy the good stuff when it goes on sale. Now you have a back up or a loaner you don’t care about (good for camping) and the bad ass one for home

I just bought another thermometer at Home Depot for $10 and it does the job.

  10. I’ve had one for 12 years. The same one. And I’m not easy on my stuff.

Thermoworks has a ThermoPop 2 for like 35 bucks. That’s what I use and it reads a temp in 2 seconds. I have zero complaints and its affordable

  14. Sign up for their texts. I get amazing deals all the time. Also, I won’t ever use any other brand at this point amazing products!

They always have 4th of July sale on red white blue ones

Go to their website and sign up. They will send you texts and emails with deals every couple of days. Cans ave you a good amount of money

Of course you can cancel the texts/emails any time

This is a bang on unit. Did the ice bath and boil test and it was spot on

Honestly, I just use one of the $20 ones Amazon has. I think it’s alpha grillers. I’ve had it a couple years now and never had an issue. I calibrate against the sous vide every now and then and it’s within a tenth. I use a higher quality thermoworks smoke for my long smokes though.

This one will do you good. It’s well worth the cost, and after having it for a little bit it’s miserable to go back to non instant read thermos. Buy off their website, they constantly have 20-30% off sales.
