Wifey and I were on our baby moon in Tahiti. We were having lunch and thought I’d enjoy a $25 bottle. Bill came and it was $250! We eventually got a good laugh out of it. YOLO 😂😂😂😂

Tasted similar to a nice red blend! I enjoyed it.

In fairness, “Two Buck Chuck” will run $100 in Tahiti. 😂

  3. I don’t recommend ass wine, whether it’s expensive or not.

Honestly, that’s a legendary baby moon memory! $250 surprise or not, sounds like you handled it like champs! At least it wasn’t a $2,500 bottle, right? Here’s to YOLO moments that turn into great stories later!

I was working at a restaurant years ago, they were on their honeymoon, and wanted a half bottle of wine. They asked for the wine list, the half bottle selection ended up taking a whole page, the left side as opened up. They bought what they thought was a spendyish bottle for them. The Somm came over, gave them a lot of face time, the best glassware… they were dazzled. They enjoyed the wine, and then asked for the check before heading out to dinner elsewhere that night. I can’t remember what they bought, but the bill was close to a grand, and I saw their eyes almost pop as their mouths dropped. Ghosts…. The bin number was 109 or something. They couldn’t really see the price as it was in the margin. Our management and Somm were so great, charged them the sku number. They came back for dinner the next night, and were treated well. Somm fixed the margins that night too. Haha.

Life is wonderful with accidents like that. It’s what you earn the money for.

Enjoy, OP! It’s better to accidentally get a much nicer bottle than you were planning than to accidentally get a much worse one.

  8. This bottle would be around €30-50 region in France.

It’s pomerol (wines from here are usually pricier) but it’s grand vin du Bordeaux classification…

I guess you need to cover the cost of transportation to tahiti.

Wine search comes up with about an $80 price for that bottle, so $250 for a restaurant is about a 3X markup.

I’ve seen a lot worse. I just saw a $10.99 vino verde on a restaurant menu for $79.

  10. Congratulations on your upcoming baby! The wine will seem cheap compared to having a kid 😂 but it is so worth it.

    Well you are on holiday…
    Congrats and enjoy!

  12. I’ve done that. Pointed to the wrong bottle with a similar name on the menu. It was really good, then the bill came. But it was my fault so it is what it is.
