I didn’t need a reason to slow down.

I just needed a knife, a cutting board, and a moment.

There’s something rebellious about cooking without rushing.

Letting garlic sizzle while your nervous system exhales.

No agenda.
No outcome.
Just presence.
Romanticizing life.
Becoming your own oxytocin.

Two Sundays ago, I lit a candle.

Played some good music. And made Romantic Roasted Vegetable Hummus like it was a love letter to my future self.

Here’s the recipe from Llewellyn’s Witches’ Datebook 2025.

ROMANTIC ROASTED VEGETABLE HUMMUS

Ingredients:
• 1 red pepper, cut into strips
• 1 red onion, cubed
• 1 cup peeled & cubed eggplant
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tsp dried rosemary
• Salt & pepper to taste
• 32 oz can chickpeas, drained (liquid reserved)
• 3 garlic cloves, peeled
• Juice from ½ lemon
• 2 tbsp tahini
• 2 tbsp fresh parsley leaves

Instructions:

1. Roast the veggies
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Toss pepper, onion, and eggplant on a baking sheet with olive oil, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Roast for 30 minutes or until the onions brown and veggies soften. Let cool completely.

2. Blend it up
Add roasted veggies to a blender or food processor with chickpeas, garlic, lemon juice, tahini, parsley, and a bit of salt and pepper. Pour in ½ cup reserved chickpea liquid and blend until smooth. Too thick? Add more liquid a tablespoon at a time.

3. Serve and vibe
Serve with chips, crackers, or veggie sticks. Makes about 2½ cups of pure sacred deliciousness.

It’s perfect for a picnic.

Or a night in where your only task is to be soft.

I made Hummus and veggie wraps for lunch that week.

Not everything needs to scale.

Some things just need to simmer.
