I had horse sashimi while in Japan. (raw horse)

It was OK. Very lean, very mild flavor reminiscent of beef, a little chewy. Would I order it again? Probably not. But I was there and it was on the menu so why not. I would love to try a cooked horse steak.

Surprised by the lack of neigh-gative feedback.

Accidentally ate horse in Italy (bresaola). Thought it was beef but found out later it was horse. It tasted like a deeper and richer beef, although I can’t tell how much of the flavor was due to the preparation vs the fact that it was horse.

I unwittingly ate it whilst I was in Belgium as a student,my host was hoping I would freak out but if he hadn’t have told me, I wouldn’t have had a clue, btw it was delicious!

It is slightly irony, significantly less so than venison. More lean than select beef. Very mildy gamy, significantly less so than lamb.

    It’s red meat.

Depending on preparation and cut you could easily mistake it for venison or beef, I’d say most similar to buffalo, definitely not as gamey as venison.

  7. I tried it once but it’s not for me – didn’t like the taste

You can buy it easily next to beef and pork in grocery stores where i live

I ate pony once. It was good, the seasoning was rough. It left me a little hoarse.

I had it twice once it was really sweet a bit too sweet for my liking and the second time I had it was actually quite nice. It was cooked in a sauce more like stew. It was very tasty. Very reminiscent of beef. Maybe a little bit richer

My buddy snuggled some cured whole horse muscle back from khazakstan for me (USA) and it was dynamite.

In Austria and in some parts of Germany, horse butchers are common. When I was young and lived in Vienna for 2 years, there was one nearby my appartment. It’s lean meat, heathly as these animals get less meds than cattle, and from what I have been told, very tasty. “Pferde-Leberkäse” (kind of meat loaf) was a thing in Vienna, and sausages.

Further, expensive business shoes made of horse leather are sort of luxury products, and the leather will last for decades as it’s very durable.

Steak taste like steak. A bit more irony

  13. I’ve eaten horse salami in the Netherlands, you probably wouldn’t tell the difference.

Inadvertently, I ordered Seabiscuits and Gravy once.

Some people say it tastes like beef, but that’s just horsay.

I’ve only eaten grilled sausage made from horse meat and it’s a stronger taste than beef, has more to it. It’s good, just try it, obviously some people will like it more and some will like it less just like with sheep or goat meat.

There is nothing wrong with eating horse meat if the meat isn’t unhealthy due to medication or whatever that people may give to horses that weren’t raised specifically to serve as food.

It’s good with some Arby’s horsey sauce
