The school, run by Inn Churches, teaches children and adults to cook various recipes – from a “simple” omelette to burgers and sushi.
It also stresses the importance of nutrition and how to budget.
“I think it’s so important that everybody should have the access to a cookery class or some cooking skills,” Ms Overend said.
“If somebody doesn’t know how to cook a bit of fish, they can buy it from the market and we can show them what to do with that fish.”
Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s executive member for regeneration, planning and transport, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the Food Savers Cookery School to the new Darley Street Market.
“Having a place where people can learn new skills and gain confidence in creating healthy meals from scratch in the same place that they can buy the ingredients to do this is a great idea.”
