I'm an amateur griller that started a couple of months ago and haven't really made a steak that "wow'd" me until now. After a lot of research online I decide to mix both reverse-sear charcoal and cast iron grilling. I'm sure I'm not the only one to have done this, but I'm sharing it here as I didn't find any recommendations online for this and have so far found it to be the best method.
Got half the grill piping hot with charcoal and about 4 mesquite bricks. Threw the steaks on indirect heat with the cast iron sitting on the direct heat to also get piping hot. Once the steaks it 120 degrees, I tossed some butter and garlic in the cast iron. Seared the steak on the cast iron, about 2 minutes each side with some thyme resting on it. This steak turned out so juicy and flavorful.
As I mentioned I am an amateur griller, and sadly I did not think to get a picture of the cut of the steak. I was too excited to eat it. It was the perfect medium rare.

Looks good
I need to see a cut please lol
Still gotta work on your sear. Make sure the steaks are completely dry and your pan is ripping hot
Edit: didn’t see that you seared them in butter. I’d recommend searing in a high smoke point oil or just right on the grill. The butter prevented your sear.
Shout out to the bussy sprouts. Perfect side dish to the steak.
Delivery?
Looks great! Nice work, chef.
Grilled ok.
Dude, for grilling lose the cast iron. Start on the cool side for 6-8 minutes, then go right over the coals.
That isn’t grilled…it’s pan fried on a BBQ!
Looks like you fried it.
Lols grilled
Not sure if that charcoal is going to get your cast iron hot enough to sear that steak the way you want it.
I’m on the opinion that cast iron is the way to go when making a steak.
That looks beautiful!
dont use a cast iron pan on a grill
I see nothing wrong with how you prepared your steak. This looks amazing. Well done.
