Austin Monthly's Burger Bash was Saturday — and it was a big hit. 20 burger slingers, each serving up a slider or a quarter of a burger — much more food than any sane person could eat. Minimal lines. Lots of free water, plus fries and ice cream, too. Tickets were about $65 after taxes and fees. I managed to hit up about 13 of the establishments before tapping out.
The only catch is that a lot of the burgers were pretty similar — smash burger with cheese and onions and a messy sauce was a common theme. Loro had a smoked salmon burger (way more decadent than I expected). Burgers with some element of smoked meat were common, too. The only burger I didn't really like was Bub's… which had peanut butter on it. They swear it's popular.
I voted for Lace with my token to win people's choice, but really like NADC and La Barbecue's just as much. I read that JABS won both people's choice and the judge's choice award… can't really remember their burger, but I did try it. I'm sure it was delightful.
I read about scam food festivals here all the time but am happy to report Burger Bash was awesome. Would happily go again!
Here's all the pictures I took that came out decently.
