De Riu: The Italian Mediterranean Diet, Longevity for Humans
The quality of the foods, their colors and production, build the pyramid of the Mediterranean diet in Italy as well as other countries in Europe. This was said at the conference organized by the Embassy of Italy in Pristina for the promotion of the quality of Italian food as a model of healthy and sustainable nutrition.
The ambassador of Italy in Kosovo, Antonello De Riu, said that the influence of the Italian Mediterranean diet, today for all people, is the prevention of health deaths, since according to him the amount of food eaten affects the life expectancy of people.
He said that diet and lifestyle are very important.
“Of course, the idea, the concept of the Mediterranean diet existed for a long time, but it was in Italy once, not only that the Mediterranean diet also included Greece, the south and the north, Spain. So over the years it has been verified that the Mediterranean diet is a food model, a food education because we have seen in the 70s in Italy many died from cardiovascular diseases, so using these principles, these principles that are part of the Mediterranean diet from the years The 80’s have created a significant decrease in these diseases, of course health has progressed as well, of course when the heart and arteries are damaged, of course it is intervened but you don’t live long. Here we are dealing with a prevention and in this aspect we can notice that even the quality of life of people at an advanced age, compared to the past, it is observed that there has been an improvement in the last 10 years, the style and way of lifestyle has changed in their lifespan. The message should be this, regardless of the amount of food, it is a philosophy of life, a way to live better, here it is important that the Mediterranean diet becomes a practice of our daily life, life has become too long today, we have many elderly people who they pass their 90s and have impressive motor skills, something that never happened before. And something that didn’t happen before, a 60-year-old today or a 60-year-old today is like a 40-year-old 10 years ago, medicine has made strides, but the way of eating and lifestyle are important.” De Rio said.
Likewise, the lecturer, Carnevali Ombretta, while sharing advice on the quality of food for a more relaxing diet, said that for fruits and vegetables, the season and their production must be respected.
“Variation of food, eating a variety of food is essential for good health. Then we will see that if we eat vegetables, it is important to see the colors of vegetables, not only in terms of appetite but also in terms of health, then we will see that we must move, not be passive, not spend time sitting and we are on the move and all of this is included in that Mediterranean food pyramid that we will see. For fruits and vegetables, it is very important to respect the season, we must have seasonal fruits and vegetables, we can have fruits and vegetables at any time of the year. But the protective measures of these foods are significantly reduced when they are produced out of season, then another part must be included considering the proteins, meat or fish, always from well-nourished and well-raised animals. A very colorful dish, a tastier dish but it has been discovered for several years that any color of fruits, vegetables and trees. So it consists of molecules from special substances that the tree produces to protect itself and these in our body have protective actions against cell degeneration, and are protective substances against degenerative diseases”, said Ombretta.
Ombretta added that a plate with colors and variety of food is very important, that according to her the people who prepare in the kitchen are welcoming and feel good.
“A very colorful dish, a tastier dish, but it has been discovered for several years that any color of fruits, vegetables and trees, that is, it consists of molecules from special substances that the tree produces to protect itself and these have actions in our organism protective, against cell degeneration and are protective substances against degenerative diseases. It is very important at home, to prepare food at home and to transform enogastronomy by making wines and food different recipes, varieties, of food because in this way we can appreciate and enjoy the benefits of food, because the practice of the kitchen is a practice that says who prepares with love for guests, it is a state of well-being, because who prepares the kitchen and feels good and is hospitable and wants people to enjoy the food, whether they are family members or whatever” said Ombretta.
In continuation, for the second year in a row, throughout the “Week”, some selected restaurants in Pristina will offer a special menu of Italian cuisine with a fixed price of 10 euros.
