Is Hobby’s Deli Pastrami Sandwich Better Than Katz’s Pastrami Sandwich? Best Corned Beef Sandwich?

Katz’s Deli has remained the king of the pastrami sandwich as we have eaten at many of the top pastrami sandwich places that includes: 2nd Avenue Deli, Sarge’s, Pastrami Queen, Harold’s, etc. All those reviews are in our Youtube channel in case you want to check them out. However I have been hearing great things about Hobby’s Deli in Newark NJ and how their pastrami sandwich might be better than Katz’s. Hobby’s has been operating in downturn Newark for over 100 years so they must be doing something right. I also heard that they have a great corned beef sandwich. i believe that Cats has the best pastrami sandwich out there their thick cup pastrami is so incredibly tender and flavorful that I salivate just thinking about it i’ve eaten and reviewed other top contenders including pastrami queen second deli [Music] ser etc they’re all quite good but cats remains the king however I’ve been hearing a great thing about Hobbies Deli in New York New Jersey some people think they’re just as good if not better than Cats’s so I had to make the trip there and taste their pastrami sandwich hobbies Deli has been operating downtown New York for over 100 years since 1962 they’ve been operated by the Brahma family so that’s 63 years of history with one family now it has tremendous pedigree it was named among the top 10 delies by Food and Wine magazine a bunch of years ago the big question for us is going to be is their pastrami sandwich better than cats the other thing I heard they have a great corn beef sandwich so I’m looking forward to trying that so let’s go we are here early at 10:00 a.m on a weekday to avoid the lunch rush here’s the menu a lot of good stuff here big menu [Music] right off the bat the prices are much more reasonable than cats is the strong is $18.95 corn beef is $17.95 the bowl of matzo soup is $7.95 so they give you a little bucket of pickles so let’s try some of these pickles grab one of these guys [Music] juicy pickle nice flavor that’s a good pickle here’s the matzabo soup and it’s a massive soup so look at the size of this matabo oh my god and it’s loaded with stuff here so wow [Music] that’s a nice fluffy mozza ball it’s nice actually so it doesn’t doesn’t absorb as much of the soup but it’s really good you got a load of stuff here got some noodles here carrots so if I look at this broth here there’s a bit of oil in it so it gives a lot of flavor of the fat it’s pretty good see the shredded chicken m [Music] okay here’s the pastrami sandwich see all the fatty bits here just not too much bark just a little bit but this looks Oh it looks pretty tender again it’s thin cut but it’s a They give you a nice portion here [Music] how you doing you okay would you like a little more coffee no I’m good okay okay nice flavor [Music] it’s juicy again not too much bar so you don’t get that smoky flavor but [Music] And again this is relatively tender it’s good [Music] it’s really good but this bread is actually pretty good too it’s a rye bread it’s pretty sturdy [Music] try some of the mustard they have it on the table here see what it tastes like [Music] it’s a bit spicy so let’s see [Music] [Music] the mustard is a spicy mustard so it does enhance its flavor overall with the pastrami so I do recommend putting it in it’s very tasty [Music] lots of articles on the history of hobbies [Music] hobbies is well known for their corn beef sandwich look at the nice fatty bits here feels tender to me wow layers of goodness i’ve gone to all these great Jewish delies i’m not really eating a corn beef sandwich but I’m glad I’m going to try one here this looks pretty good look how thick it is and again when I touched the meat it was nice and fatty m nice flavor to it very crumbly so very tender [Music] this is really good okay they’re well known for their corn beef sandwiches so this is really tasty [Music] wow this might be the best corn beef sandwich I’ve ever tasted at Chick this is that good wow [Music] how we doing folks great you’re enjoying yeah it’s delicious this is like the best corn beef sandwich I’ I’ve ever had well thank you now I’ve eaten a cat’s second deli so this is really amazing look we we just want to be better than we were yesterday cuz if we were better than we were yesterday then we’re doing something good and we hope every delicateesscent out there is fantastic and that wherever you go Yeah your cats is Second Avenue you go to Ethassess in Livingston we hope you have a great experience um we’re all on the same team you know it’s we’re not competitors you know it’s down to our food too yeah go out and and eat Delatessa we’re in favor of that yes that being said you won’t have anyone else with that that’s our exclusive yeah you were telling me you you pickle it downstairs yeah we pickle that that’s our our exclusive recipe um and it takes 2 weeks to pickle the corn beef we don’t inject it uh it sits in our in our pickling solution um for for a week and then we put it in fresh uh juice for another week and um and we buy the best brisketss we can it’s either prime or high choice uh prime isn’t available and um we’re proud of what we serve great thank you so much i’m glad to hear you’re enjoying it that was great that’s amazing that’s the important thing that’s the important thing yes thank you so much thank you check came out the 6218 we also got a kish for takeout so first things first I just had the best corn beef sandwich I’ve ever had this sandwich blew me away now I knew they had a reputation for having a very good corn beef sandwich but I did not expect it to be this good so I’m glad I tasted it here it was so delicious in terms of their pastrami sandwich that also was very very good it was juicy it was tender had a really nice flavor it did not have as much bark as I would like but in general I really enjoyed it matza ball soup was really delicious first of all huge portions a lot of stuff in there the carrots the noodles a giant moatza ball but overall that soup very very tasty homemade stock a little bit of oil in there it’s nice flavor i love that moatza ball so the big question obviously is going to be is the pastrami sandwich here better than Cats’s i still think Cats has a better pastrami sandwich but again not by mail this place was very very close it was very good now in terms of value it’s worth talking about that their sandwiches about 19 bucks cats about 27 certainly a big price point difference i think if you’re in this area definitely worth trying the food here i hope you enjoyed this video if you did
