I was told you all might appreciate the absolutely massive onion that I received in my grocery pickup order yesterday. Hand and a melon for scale – the receipt says it is 2.44lbs. I texted my mom about it but she wasn’t impressed (2nd image).

Now make a nice BIG double smash burger and put a 1/2″ slice or 2 on it.

One summer the onions were all this big at the restaurant i worked at, it was insane.

That’s a massive onion! I recently got a huge one too.

Also the melon comment is hilarious

  7. I’m curious if it’s good.

That kind of abnormal size hints that they may have prioritized breeding for size and potentially transportability over flavor, aroma, etc. This is what has largely ruined larger (normal sized) tomatoes. Go find a (real, not people reselling distributor-bought produce) farmer’s market and buy an actual heirloom fresh tomato (or better, pick your own) and compare versus a large/chain store-bought — they’re worlds apart.

I’m curious if the same is happening to onions. I hope I’m wrong and this is a legitimate freak.
