If your hand is really burnt you need to take those off. You keep burns unwrapped and run cold water over it. Keeping burns wrapped can cause damage

  2. No-Alfalfa5314

Be nicer to your hand. Maybe spend a romantic evening together. You’ll patch things up.

  3. PixelRice

I did that once and kept my hand in a tub of water with a little bit of ice. I thought for sure there were going to be blisters, but I think the water did the trick.

  4. Lizardthe_Wizard

This has never happened to me but it’s one of my more constant intrusive thoughts. I always picture having a permanent brand of the logo on my palm

  5. Barrels_of_Corn

A+ for your commitment to The Cause 🫡

  6. the-gaming-cat

Oh the amount of times I’ve *almost* done this… One day I will follow your lead, for sure! Get well soon and btw love the crumb.

  7. Substantial-Lake-302

Dude are you okay? At least the crumb is a 10/10 😅

  8. shirleysparrow

I have also done this but with both hands grabbing the Dutch oven handles. Now every time I open the oven I have trained myself to sing a little song that goes “I am NOT going to burn my hands today!” so I remember to put the gloves on. Whatever works, right?

(I’m so sorry, burns are so painful because they just keep on burning!!)

  9. pnewmatic

Been there, done that. Good habit is placing oven mitt on top of lid to signal to yourself (and others) that it’s still hot.

And this, my friends, is exactly why I keep burn cream in my kitchen first aid kit 😩

  11. loverofyouall

Crumb looks good, not so on your hand, ouch 😓

  12. CategorySwimming3661

Keep is slathered up and moist to keep those blisters intact as long as possible. It is a wonderful biological dressing

  13. judgejuddhirsch

My cousin burned her hand roasting a turkey. Got infected and had to be in a wrap for a month.

  14. megaloadeon

Ah man ive done that too, the rigours of the bread journey lol. Wishing you a Speedy recovery

  15. Pitiful-Assistance-1

My wife helped me transferring my dough into a pre-heated pan. (i’m using a tall, slender cast iron bus pan so it’s pretty hard) I repeatedly told her: “This is hot. DO NOT TOUCH IT” and she still reached for the lid to help me to put it on. I was like “DOOONT” “It’s hot remember”.

It’s such an easy mistake to make.

  16. AlwaysPlaysAHealer

I’ve accidentally gone to grab the lid but dropped it before *really* burning. Mild redness and bruised ego my only injury

  17. Rand_alThoor

commiserations for the pain and suffering. slightly reduced oven spring but crumb looks great.

looks like you’ve done all the first aid things quite expertly. (I read all the comments) so all I can do here is offer my best wishes for a speedy recovery. Happy baking! and don’t use a tea towel, use an oven glove and leave it on the lid whilst you lower the bread into the preheated Dutch oven. maybe sing a song about not touching it with bare hands, as someone else pointed out.

The call of the void is strong.

Nice bread. Hope you heal up okay.

  19. The amount of times I’ve caught myself about to do that…. Now I’m extra paranoid lol

  20. I tried to catch a falling frying pan and caught it by the rim with the webbing of my fingers…worst burn location I’ve experienced

  21. GodzillaDrinks

Oh man! I forget what I was doing specifically, but I was still working with yeast breads because I thought Sourdoughs were harder to make. Anyway, I had to be fingerprinted for a new ID system at my job at the time. Only it took forever to get the prints because I burned my fingertips so badly, trying to move a hot tray.

  22. And this is why I open bake. Me + oven-preheated cast iron is a recipe for disaster.

  23. Gunningham

It’s only dumb if you do it again.

    …well, it’s a little dumb.

  24. I just ordered silicone oven mitts because I bake and cook with cast iron and that is my fear.
And that hand tat looks awesome – appropriate for the burn

  25. chocosaurus-rex

I grabbed a freshly done pan of roasted bananas with my bare hands once. once.

  26. Thanks for sharing, came so close to doing this myself yesterday!

  27. switchbladesally

Dude I almost do it every time 😂 I should print this out and put it on my fridge

  28. generictestusername

    Been there done that!
Try coco butter after a few days for quicker healing!
