Benedictos Italian Restaurant has revealed it is so close to building a two-storey extension onto its current building to make way for a new cafe and wine bar.

The extension has seen the Sidbury business buy a section of King Street Car Park from Worcester City Council to make way for the development.

Benedictos plans will include a new ground-floor bar turn coffee shop that will be added to the restaurant, which is also currently operating as a wine tasting venue.

A spokesperson for Benedictos Italian Restaurant said: “What a great week we had – we spent a day out meeting our interior designers and doing a bit of market research.

“We’re now so close to starting the build of the long-awaited Benedictos Caffè e Wine Bar.

An official opening date for the new cafe and wine bar has not yet been given, however, the restaurant’s owners hope it will be during summer 2026.

The new building will be positioned where the pay machines are currently located in King Street Car Park.

Two parking spaces will be permanently lost and ticket machines and signs will need to be relocated.

Benedicto’s said it is looking to cater for people looking to meet for a drink as well as those wanting a more formal meal.

The bar area is designed to accommodate customers upon arrival and will address the restaurant’s current lack of space in its entrance area.

The extension will also allow the restaurant to host group bookings and small events for up to 20 people “in a discreet space served from the first floor”.

The new bar area will seat approximately 15 to 18 people, according to the plans, and the new dining area will provide the restaurant with an additional 16 covers, also doubling as a party space.

This article has been amended to correct an earlier statement suggesting Benedicto’s has closed while the extension work is carried out. The restaurant will remain open throughout the development.
