FRANKENMUTH, Mich. (WJRT) – DaVinci’s Italian Restaurant in Frankenmuth had to close unexpectedly Wednesday evening due to damage caused by a car collision.
A vehicle hit the building on Main Street, causing significant damage to the upstairs men’s bathroom. The damage led to substantial water leakage throughout the building.
The Frankenmuth Police Department says an 83-year-old man driving a Cadillac sedan became confused in the parking lot. He got his foot stuck between the gas pedal and part of the floorboard, causing him to accelerate unexpectedly.
An ambulance transported the driver, who was not identified, to MyMichigan Medical Center in Saginaw for evaluation of an undisclosed pre-existing medical condition. Investigators don’t believe the driver was intoxicated.
DaVinci’s is working quickly to clean up and ensure the restaurant is safe for customers again. The restaurant did not provide a timeline for when it plans to reopen.
DaVinci’s staff expressed appreciation for the community’s patience and understanding while they work on cleanup and repairs.
