I found this at my grandmas house. She is getting 90 in a few weeks and we were wondering if it is still fine to drink. I know i have to carefully open it but its been sitting in the original box in our basement since they bought it.
Thanks in advance!

Only one way to know.
Chill and open with friends/family.
Have backups just in case.
She will love it!
I hope so, because we have one in the cellar! Let me know how it goes!!
In principle it is still good, but nobody can tell you without opening the bottle. However good a condition it’s in, expect it to be very different from Champagne that was bottled recently.
The box doesn’t matter too much, but the conditions in your basement do. The smaller the temperature fluctuations the better. Absence of extreme events is good, as is absence of vibrations. There are other factors – but none of this really matters now, some thirty years down the line.
Can you open it?
Nope. Send it to me and I’ll dispose of it for you.
In the box and in the basement where it’s a bit cooler may mean you have a beautiful bottle on your hands. As all have said only one way to find out.
I drank an 81 a few years ago. It’s not going to Hurt you, but at least my 81 was… kinda tasted like varnish. Not drinkable per se, or at least not enjoyable.
It wasn’t cellar-ed well though, wasn’t kept cool etc throughout it’s life, would definitely not help.
Hope it was standing upright.
yes
Uhh hell yes.
I’ve had Dom going back to 60s and it was incredible. As long as it was stored correctly it should be solid.
No! Sell it to me
