After trying to match a mushroom based dish with a local wine from the Marquette grape that was completely undrinkable, decided why not crack this. The second wine from Haut-Brion (since renamed Le Clarence, back then Bahans) was still singing after 27 years. Got it at auction with a 98 Haut-Brion (still sitting in my cellar), opened and poured and the nose was muted with earth and faint blueberry. The palate was stunning; not sure if it’s the age or the blend that year but had the soft plush roundness of a Merlot dominant wine that was beautifully integrated with notes of graphite and bit of mint. Cheers!
