Any better supermarket alternatives to slap ya mama?
I love Cajun food. I often make red beans and rice and use this as the primary seasoning because it’s quick and easy. I would like to find something better that adds more spice without over doing it on the salt.

Believe it or not the Kroger brand Cajun seasoning is pretty good, and it isn’t excessively salty like a lot of brands. Badia also makes a good one. The Chef Paul (Prudhomme) seasonings are all good, Cajun magic is probably what you’re looking for. If you want it hotter add some cayenne.

SYM low sodium is the best, and fortunately I can get it at my local grocery store.

This seasoning is decent but I prefer “ Spank Yo Daddy” when it comes to heat

If you’re in that area, I’d get Gator Sprinkles or recreate it

My dad recently handed me a can of something called Cajun Two Step which taste like Tony’s without the salt. It’s been a go-to replacement for Slap Ya Mama since then.

Make your own, adjust to get it where you want it. There are gobs of recipes online, here’s one i picked at random.
A downside is you may need to buy a lot of spices to make it and then will have way more than you need to make a can of seasoning, and unused spices don’t last forever. That can be mitigated by vacuum sealing spices and tossing them into your freezer.

Stale crackers Cajun 2 step fire is better than this, IMO.

I’ve tried every cajun seasoning I can get my hands on and [Pi-yahhhh cajun seasoning](https://cajunninja.com/products/pi-yahhhh-seasoning) is hands down my favorite. Right amount of heat and seasoning combined with salt. Others are either saltier, milder, or change it up in a way that doesn’t work as well.

The hotter vesrion of Slap Ya Mama is better. Also, Tony Chachere’s more spice is very good.

I think this is the best. Although I prefer the spicier version.

I truthfully like Tony’s better , but I have been using it for years and have acquired a taste for it

It’s literally just salt, pepper, garlic, and cayenne. Waste of space, you already have them all on your shelf. If you want actual flavor try Tony Chachere’s

I like Tony Chacheres. I buy the More Spice. It has slightly less salt and more spice. Win/win.

Tony Chacheras. Arguably that one is better than slap yo mama. You go to New Orleans/ Louisiana at large and that’s what most people and restaurants use.

What are your favorite dishes to put this on? Or use as an ingredient? I’ve had this in my cabinet for years and just never use it.
