Moved up from Joliet a few years back and have yet to find this sandwich in the city. It’s an institution in the South Suburbs and copied by every little mom and pop restaurant in multiple counties. But NOT Chicago.

It’s a chopped steak slab on toasted bread that is absolutely basted in garlic butter. Cheese of choice, pickle chips. Merichkas is the original and still the best but there are hundreds of versions across the SouthWest burbs.
