Armed with 4,000 eggs and nearly half a ton of cream, French pastry chefs led by Youssef El Gatou have set a new world record with a 121.8-meter (nearly 400 feet) strawberry cake.
Unveiled at an ice rink in Argenteuil, a Paris suburb, the massive dessert weighed 1.2 tons and surpassed the previous record of a 100.48-meter cake made in Italy in 2019.
The cake, made with 350 kg of strawberries, 150 kg of sugar, and 415 kg of cream, required a team of 20 chefs and a full week to complete. Meeting Guinness World Record standards, the cake had to measure at least eight centimeters in width and height.
“The logistics were so difficult that the team used blowtorches to heat the bowl for the cream mix,” said Nadia El Gatou, Youssef’s wife.
“I was looking for a product, or a French pastry, and I also wanted to highlight farm produce, so French strawberries and products like milk, cream and butter,” said El Gatou, who had dreamed of breaking a world record since childhood.
Residents who attended the event were treated to slices of the record-breaking treat.
