I am looking at moving from a pellet grill (failed electronics/run way fan temp) to a use Kamado Joe 22” for $250. It does have a cracked firebox. For the price and condition is it better to start with a new Akron (similar price point) or is this a good deal?

Oof. Id pass.
Is this the Kettle Joe? If so, this is a terrible deal. They retail for $400. If you were to replace the broken firebox pieces, you’d probably end up paying more than the price of a new one.
Also note that if it is a Kettle Joe, it’s not a “true” kamado. The Kettle body is made out of metal, similar to the Akorn. The kamado bodies are made of thick ceramic. This provides better heat retention and more consistent temperature control. I would hold out for a ceramic model. I’ve seen some in my area in decent shape on FB marketplace going for $300.

I got an almost brand new one off facebook for $250
